Back Arnarulunnguaq The little woman of great stature The woman of the Fifth Thule Expedition, 1921–24 Arnarulunnguaq means ‘the little woman’, but in reality she was a ‘great woman’ who deserves a prominent place in history. Although the Fifth Thule Expedition and Knud Rasmussen have gone down in the history books as one of the […]
Til oversigten The Sled Dog – Our Ancient Companion We walked together to Greenland’s rich hunting grounds. Since then, the cooperation between sled dogs and humans has been crucial in Greenland. It is a truly unique relationship, found in very few other places on Earth. Our Greenlandic sled dog is the world’s oldest dog breed, […]
Our new Kalaallit Nunaat beanie pays tribute to our flag, our nature and our sense of community. Because Erfalasorput is our pride. It is the sun and the ice. The light and the dark. Everything that binds us together in a strong community.
Ole Kristiansen is one of our most renowned musicians and songwriters, popular not only in Greenland but around the world.
We live in one of the most challenging natural environments on Earth. So everything we surround us with must be able to withstand our Arctic life. This includes our clothing.
We have always known that our natural environment is unpredictable. We have also always known that our clothing needs to do more than simply protect against the elements. That is why our outdoor wear has the name and power of the ancient spirit guide: Meqqusaalik.
Meqqusaalik’s former logo was an intriguing, elegant feather. But it didn’t tell the full story of the inspiration behind the name. The new logo signifies our respect for our ancestors, the forces of nature and spiritual protection.
The word anorak is a Greenlandic word (annoraaq), and actually means a hooded, pull-over jacket that doesn’t open all the way up in the front. Our summer anorak is inspired by the colourful cotton anoraks that were popular in Greenland in the 1930s. Today, we use modern fabrics, but the cut is almost exactly the same.
Once again, homeless people in Sisimiut can get a free haircut this year at Salon Inuit. At the same time, other companies will also be making donations. Meqqusaalik is contributing to this excellent initiative with a donation of protective outdoor wear.
